Remembering all those rules....

Many of us have a hard time remembering our social security number, much less some of the twists and turns in poker.

Can a new player keep a little note pad next to them with the rules until they get the rhythm of specific type of poker under control, or is that really frowned upon?

I'm not sure but it probably depends a lot on the situation. If I was playing a lot with friends or other people I was really comfortable with then I wouldn't hesitate to keep a pen and pad. If you're not playing with people you know well then it may be a good idea to log some online practice with a notepad file open for keeping records.
