BASIC POKER TACTICS

I’m sure you’re interested in knowing what makes other poker players tick while a good number of them do not.  I’ve watched people in casinos take a stab at a game of poker hoping for beginner’s luck to shine on them.  Sure you see that happen once in a while where you yourself feel like there might also be something in store for you once you take your place around the table.  Before you take the plunge and lose more money than you can throw away, try reading this article first to learn basic poker strategies.

Game of Probabilities

Like any card game, poker is a numbers game.  This theory holds water compared to beginner’s luck.  A number can continue believing in that tale but you better believe me when I say that it will never beat the odds game that is inherent with poker plays.

You have to identify early in the game if the cards you drew would be a good hand to bet on or would it serve you better to just fold and wait for a good set of cards.  Some people will say try bluffing your way but it just won’t work if someone got a good hand and willing to call your bluff.  If you got two aces on your cards and there’s four of you playing round the table, you know right away that you have a good hand.  Hey, there’s only a slim chance that one of the 3 other players will get the remaining aces on the deck.  Know what I mean?

Wise Play

Experienced poker players know what it means to be patient and pounce at the right moment.  It doesn’t pay to keep betting like a maniac or bluffing at every turn.  Unless there are only two of you left playing for the pot and you got enough chips to spare, it would be good to know when to fold, bet or bluff.  Bottom line is you should stay in if you’ve got good hands and fold when you know it’s a bad one.  Those who acquire this skill will last long on the table.

Any poker player knows that you have to be good at masking your expressions and actions when you get a good card or a bad one.  Giving away signs of these will make you lose money against better players.  So, if you can’t discipline yourself to hide your tell, you better think twice about playing live poker.  You might want to limit yourself to online poker instead.
