BASICS OF SEVEN CARD STUD POKER
One popular type of poker played in home settings and casinos is the seven card stud poker. Normally, there can be 2-7 players involved in the game. Of course, you can only play this too if you have the usual deck of 52 cards and stack of chips. Depending on the conditions set by the group, it is possible to have two winners in the game – one is the person with the highest hand while the second would be the one with the lowest hand possible after all the rounds of betting and when all 7 cards have been dealt to each player. In most cases though, the highest hand wins the pot.
Rules of the game
The game starts with an ante all players put in the game. Ante is not considered a bet but it is a fixed amount all players contribute to the game to warm up the pot money. Like as is usual practice, the order of the game starts with the player directly on the left of the dealer where two pocket or hole cards are dealt with the third facing up. The same number of cards is dealt the same way to the rest of the players going clock wise.
After everyone gets a chance to look at their own hole cards, the player with the lowest card dealt face up gets the first position to bring in a small bet. The cycle of betting goes on starting with the player to the left of this person instead of the dealer this time. Here you can start seeing players fold, call the bet or raise it too, depending on each player’s feel of their hole cards in comparison to the other players. With 3 cards dealt to each player, this wraps up the first round of betting.
Winner Revealed
In the next four rounds, each player is dealt one card each time. The fourth card dealt facing up is called fourth street, also known as the turn. Betting starts this time with the player with the highest cards as shown face up. Then the order of betting proceeds with each person to the left of the previous player. The same cycle continues with the fifth street, sixth and final cards except that the final card is dealt facing down to the players that remains in the hand. During the showdown, the player with the highest card combination wins. The lowest 5 card hand with no card higher than 8, can split the pot with the other winner. |
