BLUFFING 101
Poker bluffing adds spice to the game. It’s not as fun if everyone seems to be playing with tight hands so that you see very little of the pot money going higher. Bluffing is not entirely dependent on the amount but there are also other factors to look into when bluffing would be good and when it’s not really one of the best moves. Although luck may make you feel more confident to bluff, it’s still much different if your opponents will not put two and two together and call your bluff.
Success with Bluffs
One of the things you could try incorporating in your game is calling the bluff late instead of when you’re in an early position. You haven’t had the chance to see check out the cards that’s been dealt with and you have the vaguest idea of your opponents’ hands. Conversationally, if you think your opponent’s are entertaining thoughts of you getting a good hand after the cards are dealt, you may try bluffing at that point. Just make sure you’re not the type to inadvertently give away your hands with expressions and moves indicating otherwise.
Frequency of Bluffing
Bluffing too frequently is a signature move of amateurs. And more often, it doesn’t fool a seasoned poker player. If you were caught earlier with your bluff and you try again too soon after that in the game, you would expect the other players to call your bet. However, if you know you got a fairly good hand and you call a bluff, this line of thinking might just as well work to your advantage.
The unpredictability of your bluffs will help make the tides turn in your favor. If done infrequently and without a pattern to show, your opponents may most likely fold because they think you got it, especially after the cards have been dealt with. Who’s to know anyway until the cards have been disclosed anyway unless you’re playing against pro poker players who can read the signs?
Bad players will not be easy to bluff. When I say bad players, I’m talking about players who seem to not care or notice the hands and call your bluff. So even if you’ve worked out that with the cards dealt, not all players may be astute enough to notice that you might have a good hand although you really don’t have it. So even if you bluff, they will not fold as you’d expect. |
