Choosing Your Poker Room  E-mail
Choosing Your Poker Room

As a poker newbie or a poker beginner, you need to learn the basic poker playing rules, learn about the different poker variants, choose the game you’d like to try your hand on, and practice before you get into some serious poker games.  For all of the above, the internet is a rich resource.  The internet is especially a good place to get some serious poker gaming experience.

You have to choose your poker room wisely, though.  There is a multitude of online poker rooms and gaming networks which you can join, but you only need one poker room or, at most, several, where you could sharpen your poker skills.  Thus, you can’t pick just any site at random.  The following are a couple of characteristics that you should look for in the poker room that you finally settle on.

Trustworthiness

The poker room that you should register in should definitely be trustworthy.  There are a lot of valid reasons why this should be one of your primary considerations when deciding on an online poker room.

First, you are going to be submitting your personal information to the poker room:  your name, address, phone number, and email information, among other things.  These are information best kept secret or entrusted only to the most trustworthy sites.  Otherwise, you risk identity theft.

Secondly, you are also going to give the site your financial information.  Imagine giving the site your credit card information and finding out later on that the site owners are actually scammers; they used your credit card for unauthorized transactions.  The risk to your credit standing and financial security cannot be discounted.  In cases where you use an internet wallet or account service, the risks are minimized somewhat but you still run the risk of losing money you have deposited in your internet wallet account.

Third, if you become a member of an untrustworthy poker room, you also run the risk of not getting your hard earned money back.  Winning in poker wouldn’t do you much good if the poker room refuses to release your winnings.

Stability

It would be much better if you were to choose a poker room that is run by a stable corporation or company.  If the company is publicly traded, check the value of its stocks and find out the company’s capital and financial backing.  This way, you know that the poker room will have enough funds to back up its promises and pay you your winnings.  Moreover, you will know that the company is subject to stringent accounting and auditing measures; after all, they do have to answer to their stockholders.
