EFFECTIVE POKER BLUFF
Ever wondered how some players get away with bluffing? It has more to do than just looking calm without any facial expression or body movements that would give away your cards. That would only work for new poker players who are unable to hide their actions or control their verbal and non-verbal expressions while playing poker. It is only small part of the entire ploy with bluffing.
Tactics for Bluffing
A basic fact with bluffing is that it usually works for people who are playing against weak opponents. If you have a pro player around who knows what you’re most probably up to and calls your hand, you will need to make some revisions to your plan or move to a contingency plan for such opponents.
Bluffing works two ways. You may give the impression that you have a big hand during that round when actually you have a weak one. What you want to happen is that no one checks your hand and hope the others would fold. The other side of the coin is that you could pretend you have a weak hand when you actually have a good one and go through the round hoping they would call or raise the bet further until you show your hands and win the pot. The latter technique is further boosted if you try to raise the bet to say two-thirds of the pot after a card is shown and it doesn’t seem to help anybody on the table at all. I mean if I were the opponent, I’d say you’re bluffing when you raise the bet considering that the card that came wasn’t helpful at all like when you see a 2 or 3.
Mind Play
If you think about it, bluffing is very much akin to psychological maneuvers. You set the other players up by playing very aggressively on the table and placing a good number of well-executed bluffs. This strategy makes your opponent sit up and think that you seem to be playing loose-aggressive. So that when the time comes for you to set-up them up to thinking that you got losing cards instead of a big one, they would take in everything, hook, line and sinker. Raise the bets further and you got them hooked.
Go ahead and add this to your arsenal of poker strategies. See how things would go for you and you might win more with this ploy once you get the hang of it. |
