Poker is a game where psychology is a great factor. Great players are able to win the worst hands because they have mastered the psychological part of the games. Bluffing is one of the most popular psychological tools in poker. Bluffing is making your opponent feel and believe that you have the best card even though you don’t.

Essentials of Bluffing

Bluffing is an easy thing to do. But making an effective bluff is another story. For your buff to be effective you should be able to make your opponent believe that you have the best hand even after you have on the game. Never give any sign that you are bluffing.

It is also important for you know when to bluff. Try to observe betting patterns before you make a bluff. The most crucial part is the pre-flop bet. Take note of those people who are making use of Check/Fold these players are just trying to have a free look of the flop so it is easier to eliminate them from the game early.  Just bet a good amount and these players will surely be out of the game.

Patience is very important in making a bluff. You have to wait and be observant before making your bluff. Not rushing things will make it look as if you have a hand to be considered. It will also give you a better idea about your opponent’s hand.

Don’ts in Bluffing

For your bluffing to be convincing there are things that you should not do when making a bluff. If you are playing on a real poker table reactions and facial expressions should be kept in check.

It is not very advisable to bluff at low limits table. Since there is not much to lose it is very liable that someone will call your bluff. Bluff when limits are high and bluff high enough to scare your opponent but low enough to minimize your loses if your bluff is called.

Do not bluff too often. Bluffing to often will higher the chances of your bluff getting caught. And once you are caught your opponents will mark you. This will lessen the chances of your bluff being effective.
