Poker for Higher Stakes I have yet to see a serious poker player who remains happy with mediocre winnings. Like any sport or game, poker brings out the competitive spirit in any player. It is quite understandable that a person may want to start from learning the ropes of poker first. That goes for everyone including professional players. Learning the Trade Many pokers start out with small bets. Of course, you don’t want to lose big time the first time so that you eventually lose all enthusiasm for the game at the onset. If you play your hands right, you will find playing poker to be most enjoyable, entertaining and even financially rewarding. You get the chance to study other opponents and how they play their hand. However, most beginners are known to make the most unpredictable calls and bets simply because they don’t have the experience or have no one to pattern their game after yet. Most of the time, they do not have a complete grasp of the game yet but that’s where beginner’s luck comes in. This unpredictability has made them a non-favorite among pro poker players who have a hard time reading their opponent’s moves. It would be a shame to find a pro player losing out to a beginner. Graduating to Higher Levels After a while, you get a feel of how poker is played around the circles so you may want to try and take your game to the next higher level. When this happens, you are opening yourself up to higher stakes. If you have gained experience and have started to seriously play poker against better opponents, this should sharpen your skills further. Add the fact that you’re playing for higher stakes, too, and you’ll have a chance of earning more. Sure, you’ll probably lose money here and there but if you intend to take things up, you have to make that move. Otherwise, you remain lumped with other beginners with no hope of getting more in terms of skills and pot money. Poker is just like any professional sport you see on television. It takes experience and certain skill sets matched with the winning poker attitude to make it big. This of course, doesn’t happen overnight but with patience and practice, you’ll start getting it and acquiring your own rhythm and your own type of game rolling. So are you in or out to play poker big time or do you just want to remain in the sidelines? Make your call or lose your bet. |
