Whom to Look up to in Poker

One of the best-loved past-time of families and friends is poker.  In almost all occasion, it would be usual to see tables bearing poker cards and chips and filled with enthusiastic poker players.  Who does not dream of becoming an expert in this card game?  Who would not want to achieve a hall-of-fame in poker award?

Well, basically everyone who engages in poker has this elusive and great dream, but not everyone is given the opportunity.  Thus, only a few have been able to emere triumphant and have made it to the “Poker Hall of Fame.”

Whenever poker hall of fame awards are discussed, the names Puggy Pearson (1987), Doyle Brunson (1988), Jack Keller (1993), Julius Oral Popwel (1996), and Roger Moore (1997) are always mentioned.  The list of hall-of-famers also includes the 21st Century or modern poker geniuses such as Johnny Chan (2002), Bobby Baldwin (2003), Berry Johnson (2004), Crandell Addington (2005), and Billy Baxter (2006).

If the Tennessee born gambler and 1973 poker world champ, Puggy Pearson, is dubbed as one of the greatest seven-card stud players, Texas’ Doyle Brunson has triumphed in two world titles, specifically in 1976 and 1977.  Brunson was also the first player who won $1 million in a world tournament.

Johnny Chan, on the other hand is a credible hall of fame recipient because of his three-time victory during world tournaments in 1987, 1988, and 2002.  Following in Chan’s footsteps are two more poker geniuses—Berry Johnston, who have won the 1986 World Series of Poker Championship and Billy Baxter, who from 1990 have been able to win seven poker World Series bracelets.

On the other hand, if consistency will be the barometer of selecting the greatest poker player of all time then there’s no one more deserving of the title than Jack Keller or "Gentleman Jack.” Keller; he won the early 1980s and 1984 world tournaments.

Julius Oral “Little Man” Popwell is likewise a great poker player.  Although “Little Man” has not won any records of world championships, he has still achieved “near-mythical stature” because of his great poker skills.  Roger Moore, on the other hand, joins the roster of best poker players because he has been able to win at a 1994 World Series of Poker (1997) 15 times his capital; this feat earned him around $400, 378.

Bobby Baldwin is a poker hall of fame player because of his contribution to poker; specifically, he brought class to poker.  Crandell Addington is also included in the roster of great poker players because of his status as poker ambassador and because he is a well-known high-stakes winner.

Now who would not want to fill these people’s shoes?  If you want to be posted as a poker hall of fame player, then keep on practicing while there is still time for you to master poker maneuvers and learn newer and more aggressive playing styles.
